An animator attempts Inktober 2018
This year I decided to take on the Inktober challenge. I was working at Mac Guff Ligne as an animator on the film Samsam at the time. One thing that really struck me was how much my posing skills improved during the time I did this illustration challenge. I’m happier with some images than others but overall I’m very proud of doing one finished ink drawing per day in October!

This was the official prompt list from Inktober 2018.
For the first few drawings I tried making little cartoons of my girlfriend and I. I'm vegetarian, so the idea behind this one is that meat is my poison.
This is a cartoon I did of Cristiano Mourato, one of my colleagues and a vegan activist. He loves oranges and saving animals.
I wanted to change the style of what I was doing and for exhausted I thought of a weeping flower. This one included some blue acrylic ink.
For this image I tried something a little more surreal. I don't like it as much as the others but glad I tried it!
I again wanted to try a different style so decided to make an image by using small points and dots.
In music we often talk about being in the flow. I didn't have long to work on this one but I like the idea.
For this one I was probably inspired by Tex Avery...
I was sick this day and could barely look down at my page to draw. The sketch was a bit of a mess but I liked it a lot for a strange reason. By the time I edited and inked it a few days later, this is what I got.
This is my chubby cat Keanan (now a not so chubby Keanan thanks to a diet).
From a Dr Sketchy lifedrawing night in Paris that I went to.
Apart from a few exceptions, these images take around 2 hours. Balancing Inktober with a full time job was starting to make me tired and I was struggling to come up with more ideas. This was my way of showing that!
More chubby clumsy Keanan.
I wanted to experiment with more of a logo / icon style this day.
I wanted to mess around with body shapes this day and had fun distorting the old man's spine.
This is my parent's dog Max.
I really like this image. I noticed afterwards that he would probably really hurt himself holding an axe like that, which made me like it even more.
More cute animals. Instagram likes cute animals.
This is another image I ended up really liking. I enjoyed the story I was telling with it.
This is me again playing with a different style. I was quite happy with this one.
I loved the idea of a huge capitalist santa monster with a sweatshop full of poor 'little helpers'.
Another image I really liked. These are my two favourite trees, the weeping willow and fir trees.
Tex Avery coming back to inspire me here.
More chubby Keanan to end Inktober 2018. By this image, I'd started experimenting with diluting the ink for shadows.
